Our Services in the Agricultural Sector
Fen Farm Pest Control specialises in providing Pest Management Solutions to the agricultural sector, including grain stores and a variety of arable farms, in Lincolnshire, East Midlands counties, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Norfolk.
With extensive knowledge and experience in the pest control challenges that we encounter in these environments, our team always works in close collaboration with our clients. This very often involves working within the requirements of industry accreditations/specifications, such as those of the British Retail Consortium, M&S, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Red Tractor, TASCC, amongst others.
Rodent Management On Farms
Rodent management on farms more often than not entails a multi-pronged approach, such as proofing buildings against rodents, food source elimination where possible, clearance of potential breeding sites and a combination of non-chemical and chemical treatment applications. The team at Fen Farm Pest Control has great experience in dealing with particularly difficult rodent infestations in these environments where there are often competing food sources and where rodents often show resistance to some second generation rodenticides widely used in pest control.
Stored Product Insect Pests
Stored product insect pests cause a considerate problem to farmers, as their grain stores become rapidly infested with these insects. If left untreated, these infestations result in stored product damage, which equates to profit loss to farmers.
Fen Farm Pest Control use a non-chemical approach, by applying an inert product approved for use in grain stores. This product contains amorphous silica which acts on the outer layer of the cuticle of any insect it contacts. By disrupting the outer protective waxy coating of insects, it causes them to die. This product is approved for use against the stored product insect species such as saw-toothed grain beetle, rust-red grain beetle, grain weevil, lesser grain beetle, rust-red flour beetle, moth larvae and flour mite.
Food auditors particularly favour the above-mentioned non-chemical approach to protect grain products from contamination with stored product insects, as it is safe and also removes all risks associated with the introduction of a chemical insecticidal product in the food chain.
This treatment can be carried out in empty grain stores prior to storage, as well as onto heaps of stored grain that are infested with insect pests. Contact Us if you have any stored product pest concerns.
